The Power of Healing in Community

A Philosophy Shaped by Experience

My passion for group work was shaped by Dr. Jeffrey Kottler at California State University, Fullerton, whose mentorship sparked my appreciation for group processes and their unique power.

Across my career, I’ve facilitated anger management groups, coping skills groups, and therapeutic programs in community agencies. These experiences affirmed that when individuals with similar needs come together, meaningful and life-altering change can take place.

Group therapy is not predictable — and that’s what makes it powerful. Each group takes on a life of its own, shaped by who shows up and what each person brings into the space that day. Together, we create something dynamic, supportive, and uniquely ours.

What Group Therapy Can Offer

Group work can help individuals:

  • Feel less alone in their experiences

  • Develop insight by hearing from others

  • Practice communication and emotional expression

  • Build healthier relational patterns

  • Increase empathy and perspective-taking

  • Strengthen coping and problem-solving skills

  • Experience support in a community setting

Whether online or in person, group therapy creates a shared environment where individuals can grow both independently and collectively.

There is something profoundly transformative about sitting with others in a safe emotional space. While it may feel uncomfortable at first — opening up not just to a therapist but to a group of strangers — something meaningful begins to unfold over time.

As the group connects, shares, listens, and witnesses one another, a collective “magic” forms. Members develop shared norms, deepen communication skills, and build an understanding that mirrors the very best of human connection. Group therapy becomes its own small community — a reflection of what is possible in our relationships and in the world.

Telehealth Groups During COVID-19 Precautions

To ensure the safety of all participants during ongoing COVID-19 considerations, group therapy may be conducted through telehealth. Technology allows us to gather, connect, and share from wherever we are — maintaining safety while preserving the heart of group work.

Upcoming Groups at Well1
